This policy explains what personal data WattDrive collects when you use our charging network, app, website or partner with us, why we collect it, and the choices you have under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”) and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
1. Who we are and scope
“WattDrive”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean WattDrive Infra Private Limited (CIN U35105UW2026PTC255942), registered office at AltF Noida 142, Plot No. 21 & 21A, Sector 142, Maharishi Nagar, Noida, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh 201305. For the personal data described here, WattDrive is the “Data Fiduciary” under the DPDP Act.
This policy applies to:
- Drivers and EV owners who charge at WattDrive chargers or use the GoWattDrive app.
- Hosts and partners: housing societies and RWAs, hotels, homestays, commercial property owners, franchisees and fleet operators.
- Visitors to our website and social channels, and people who contact us or apply to work with us.
It does not cover the separate YouTube channel “Watt in the Garage”, which is governed by YouTube’s own policies. Our Terms and Conditions and any signed host or franchise agreement apply alongside this policy.
2. Personal data we collect
We collect only what we need to run the charging service. What we collect depends on how you deal with us.
| Who you are | Data we collect |
|---|---|
| Driver / app user | Name, mobile number, email; account credentials; vehicle make, model and registration number; charging session history (start/stop time, kWh, charger ID, tariff); wallet and transaction records; support tickets and call/chat records |
| Driver using vehicle integration (optional) | Battery State of Charge, last known location and odometer from your vehicle’s telematics, collected only after you connect it and until you disconnect it |
| Payments | Transaction ID, amount, payment method type and status from our payment gateway. We do not store full card numbers, CVV, UPI PIN or net-banking credentials |
| Hosts, RWAs, franchisees | Name and designation of authorised signatories, contact details, entity and property details, GSTIN/PAN, bank details for payouts, and KYC documents needed to sign and pay under our agreements |
| Resident charging (societies) | Flat/tower number and vehicle details where a society requires them for access control or billing |
| Website visitors | IP address, device and browser data, pages viewed, referral source, cookies |
| Enquiries and applicants | Contact details, organisation, message content, CV and employment details you send us |
Location. The app uses your device location, with your permission, to show nearby chargers and navigate to them. You can turn this off in your device settings; charger search by city or map then works manually.
Automatically collected. Log data, device identifiers, app version, crash reports and usage events help us keep chargers online and the app secure.
From others. We may receive charging session data from interoperable roaming partners and charger management platform vendors, and payment confirmations from our payment gateway.
3. Why we use your data, and on what basis
We process personal data only for lawful purposes, on the basis of your consent or a “legitimate use” recognised by the DPDP Act (for example, performing a service you asked for, complying with law, or responding to an emergency).
- Provide charging: authenticate you, start and stop sessions, bill you, issue invoices and refunds, and send session alerts.
- Run and maintain the network: monitor charger uptime, diagnose faults, plan maintenance and manage load on a site’s electrical connection.
- Support: respond to tickets, calls and chats, including via WhatsApp where you contact us there.
- Safety and security: prevent fraud and misuse, investigate incidents, and protect chargers and users.
- Improve the service: aggregate and, where practical, anonymised analytics on utilisation, pricing and site planning.
- Pay and contract with partners: compute host revenue shares, make payouts, file GST and meet accounting duties.
- Marketing: offers and updates by SMS, email or app notification, only with your consent. You can opt out at any time and it will not affect your ability to charge.
- Legal compliance: respond to lawful requests from courts, regulators and government authorities.
We do not sell personal data. We ask for consent in clear language, tell you what each request is for, and you can withdraw consent as easily as you gave it (see section 7).
5. Retention and security
Retention. We keep personal data only as long as the purpose needs it or the law requires. We erase or anonymise it afterwards, and inform you where the DPDP Act requires.
| Data | Typical retention |
|---|---|
| Account and profile | Until you delete your account, then erased within 90 days unless law requires otherwise |
| Charging sessions, invoices, payment records | 8 years, to meet tax and accounting rules |
| Support records | 3 years from ticket closure |
| Vehicle integration data | Until you disconnect the integration |
| Website and app logs | Up to 12 months |
| Host and franchise KYC and contracts | Contract term plus 8 years |
Security. We use reasonable safeguards: encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access controls, firewalls, logging and monitoring, and vendor due diligence. If a personal data breach affects you, we will notify you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires. No system is perfectly secure; please keep your account credentials confidential.
6. Cookies, children and data transfers
- Cookies. Our website and app use essential cookies to work, and analytics cookies to understand usage. Non-essential cookies are used only with your consent, and you can change browser settings at any time. See our Cookie Policy.
- Children. WattDrive is for adults. We do not knowingly collect data of anyone under 18. If you believe a child’s data has reached us, write to us and we will delete it.
- Transfers outside India. Some processors may store data on servers outside India. We transfer data only to countries not restricted by the Government of India, and under contracts that require equivalent protection.
7. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you can:
- Access: ask for a summary of the personal data we hold, who we have shared it with, and why.
- Correct or update: have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.
- Erase: ask us to delete data that is no longer needed, subject to legal retention duties. See our Account Deletion Policy.
- Withdraw consent: at any time, as easily as it was given. This does not affect processing already done, and we may be unable to provide services that need that data.
- Grievance redressal: raise a complaint with us (section 8).
- Nominate: name another person to exercise these rights if you die or become incapacitated.
Email the address in section 10 from your registered mobile or email. We may verify your identity first and will respond within 30 days.
8. Grievance Officer
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, contact our Grievance Officer first. We will acknowledge within 72 hours and aim to resolve within 30 days. If unresolved, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
- Name and designation: Arunabh Mukherjee, Director and Grievance Officer
- Email: info@wattdrive.in
- Address: as in section 1
9. Changes to this policy
